Rodendary Reststyle
by Tabitha Setari
when lights go out i make like mice
laying dormant in my closet
nibbling on sweaters
making nests before i sleep
i huff and chew on garbage
to soften up my bedding
sniffing empty bottles strewn
about to influence my dreams
for late night snacks i burrow
through the corpses in my ashtray
and explore matted hair brushes
to de-stress from my week
from the creases in couch cushions
i track follicles still tethered
sewing spares next to my leg hairs
shaping waves to wade knee deep
even sprawled on brittle carpet
i float gently out to sea
swimming circles in my hamper
reading tags and counting fleas
